Christmas Ride & Post Ride Social well supported - thanks to all who attended
21 Dec 2025 by Paul Clifton
A great turnout for the Christmas Ride and After Ride Social! Thirty-two people came along for the ride and/or the mince pies, which, given the grey, misty morning, was a tribute to the club's growing spirit. Thanks were given to the committee for their work during the year updating the club's documentation and processes, and aligning safety and constitutional documentation with British Cycling. Special thanks were given to Dave Nicholson, who has done a fantastic job behind the scenes, creating and simplifying the route planning and sharing process. After an upcoming visit to South Africa, Dave announced that he would be returning to the saddle in the new year, taking up his usual position at the back of the group — but first at the bar!
Paul spoke about the club's growing membership and the number of new members who joined during the year.
The plan was also shared to attract even more riders by advertising a Saturday morning Starter Ride Programme commencing in April 2026 in local media. This programme is aimed at making road cycling accessible and enjoyable for beginners. The club will be offering short, friendly rides led at a relaxed pace. Experienced members will provide support in a safe environment to help riders build confidence and skills. Prior to the April rides, the club will host drop-in sessions where potential riders can meet the team and ask questions. With more members the club will be able to offer more varied group rides, in order to cater for the different needs and wants of the membership.
We were pleased once again to be joined by Barbara Hall, who presented the annual John Hall Memorial Trophy and cheque to the rider whom the committee felt had made a difference this year. Barbara’s husband John was one of the founder members of the club and a great enthusiast who devoted a lot of his personal time to creating this great club. In his memory, the John Hall Trophy was created.
This year's recipient whilst not exactly known for their exuberant enthusiasm, they have consistently demonstrated their dedication to the club by attending a remarkable number of rides throughout the year. Their dry sense of humour often keeps us going and adds a unique flavour to our group. This year the John Hall Trophy was awarded to Steve Bond. Congratulations, Steve!
His dedication, sense of humour and consistent participation embody the spirit of our club, and we are grateful for his contributions. Well deserved!
