This year, nine members of the Daventry Cycling Club embarked on the annual trip to Mallorca, arriving at Stuart Hall’s Spring Training Camp in Port de Pollença on Monday, March 16th.
https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1KW3QyhP4D/?mibextid=wwXIfr After quickly assembling their bikes, the group split into two factions: some opting for the traditional ride to the iconic Cap de Formentor lighthouse, while others enjoyed a more leisurely pace (32KPH!), round trip to Alcudia. Throughout the week, the team tackled several challenging climbs, including Puig Major, Cap de Formentor, Coll de sa Batalla, and Coll de Sóller, to name but a few all while basking in the splendid weather that accompanied their seven days of cycling. Clad in their new club kit, they not only looked impressive but also received numerous compliments from fellow cyclists and locals alike.
The camaraderie among the participants was palpable, as both seasoned riders and newcomers shared in the experience of daily rides, honing their skills and pushing their limits. The accommodation was exceptional, featuring a comfortable hotel with a diverse array of delicious meals that catered to all tastes. To soothe their tired muscles after long rides, the team took advantage of the daily spa facilities, which included a sauna, steam room, and cold plunge pool. Some adventurous members even ventured into the sea for a refreshing morning dip before breakfast, embracing the invigorating chill of the water.
As is tradition, the evenings were filled with entertainment led by Darren, who ensured that the group enjoyed a few beers and glasses of wine while engaging in singing and even dancing. The daily rides followed a familiar pattern, with Darren often taking the lead and winning the sprint at the end of each ride. However, he made a notable effort on the final day, maintaining a strong position at the front for over 130 kilometres. The week was not without its lighthearted moments, including a humorous reenactment of the Princes Gate Embassy Siege, where several members, whose identities shall remain undisclosed, playfully stormed Andy’s room while he was asleep. Some entered through the balcony, while others used the front door, all captured on video for posterity. Andy humorously anticipated a cold bucket of water, to which the group replied that they wouldn’t resort to such measures, primarily because they couldn’t find a bucket. Overall, it was a memorable week filled with laughter, challenges, and shared experiences.
Well done to Adam and Paula on their first Mallorca trip. Not easy climbs or descents and surviving the evenings entertainments !
